WORSHIP AND CHRISTIAN SERVICE
No one has demonstrated true service better than the Lord Jesus Christ. He is a superior example for Christians today in the area of service. The opportunity to serve is a spiritual blessing because God has entrusted and empowered believers for service. Like Jesus, believers must be ready at all times for service not only in the area of evangelism to save souls, but also to serve in the church. “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve” (Mark 10:45).
Every believer with genuine salvation can serve. We don’t need college education to serve but a heart full of grace and a soul generated by love. Every believer is needed for service and every community church must be involved, not only in the field of evangelism but in other areas of church service. So, no matter what the need, every Christian can serve according to his or her gift; being a member of the body of Christ. “For in fact the body is not one member but many” (Rom 12:4-8).
The service ministry is not only varied but also endless. There are always things to do. As one member does his part, others are encouraged to do theirs and the whole body is united, healthy, and full of love (Eph 4:16). Unfortunately, many are in the church to listen to sermons, not rendering any service and leaving a few to shoulder the lion’s share of responsibilities. This does not edify the body of Christ! The best way to serve God is to bury ourselves in His service, nothing else matters.
