WHY NOT TRUST GOD AND BELIEVE HIS PROMISES?
In these present days of economic and health challenges all over the world, believers in the Lord are probably discouraged, despondent and are filled with the doubts of whether or not, God could be trusted in times of need like now. This ought not to be the disposition of abiding believers because doubt and discouragement are major tools of the devil to derail the faith of believers who are going through some unpleasant situations. When a believer is despondent, he will be discouraged from believing the promises of God, thus dishonouring God and His faithfulness. The Scripture says “God will keep in perfect peace, those, whose hearts are stayed on Him for they trust in Him” Isaiah 26:3.
To enjoy the perfect peace of God in all situations, we must keep trusting in the Him, no matter our predicament(s). To fortify our faith in the Lord and trust Him, we must always meditate in His Word and the evidences of His performance in the past as documented in the Scriptures. The Scripture says that all things are possible with God; Matt 19:26, with the assurance of bringing to performance His promises; Num 23:19. So every promise that God has ever made will be fulfilled. According to the promise of God; Abraham and Sarah became parents at very old age when it was practically impossible for Sarah to bear a child at 90 years of age; He brought out Israel from Egypt and took them to Canaan land by promise; He divided the Red Sea for Israel to pass through; He raised our Lord Jesus Christ through Virgin Mary by promise; He made the Lord a sin bearer for all mankind by promise, to mention a few. Of a fact many of His promises have indeed been fulfilled. So, we must continue to put our trust in God for the performance of His promises because His promise to meet our very need will also be fulfilled.
Unfortunately what believers do, today, is to complain frequently and put on the defeatist attitudes as if God is no more in existence. But why should we accept this defeatist attitude when our God is the Lord of the impossible? Is anything too hard for the Lord’?; Jer 32:27. The Lord is God of all flesh and there is nothing too hard for Him to do for His children! The problem is, we don’t get anything because we don’t ask in faith or we ask amiss. Those who asked in faith got what they needed: Hannah asked for a child and she got children; Elijah ask for fire from heaven and fire came down, he ask for drought and there was drought in Israel, and again, he asked for rain and it rained heavily; Peter raised Dorcas from death, made the lame to walk and healed the sick when he prayed in Jesus’ name, not doubting the power of prayers. All these are seemingly too hard and impossible by human standard, but with God nothing shall be impossible. Do you give time for earnest prayers? You can alter your situation for the best today if you trust God and believe in His promises without wavering.
