WALKING WISELY WITH THE LORD.
“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding” (Prov 4:7). The Spirit of Wisdom is an attribute of God and it is part of His nature. The scripture says that ‘walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.’ (Col 4:5-6). The wisdom of God is a path that always leads to abundant life. The more we walk in His wisdom, the more abundant strength and blessings we will experience in life. The effects of wisdom of God include joy, contentment, prosperity, favours, etc. With all these, then, walking in the wisdom of God is a great gain. One aspect of walking in wisdom involves redeeming our time because time is precious and extremely important. We must make use of every opportunity we have very wisely because our time is extremely short and limited in this present world. Our time gets shorter by the day and we must redeem it before it runs out.
“See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil; wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is” (Eph 5:15-17). Walking in the wisdom of God is not automatic, it is to be sought for, from the Giver. When gotten, it changes the nature of those who walk in it. With God’s wisdom, our old mindsets, thoughts, attitudes, and habits become refined spiritually, allowing the word of God to become operative in our lives. We will then be able to live righteously, be obedient to the Lord and practice what we preach. We cannot effectively communicate biblical truth unless the truth and wisdom of God operate in our lives. We will be able to walk as He walked, investing our time, talent, and resources on things that have eternal values for the edification of the body of Christ because we are walking as He walked. Wisdom will make us not to be vitally occupied with worldly activities but be interested, foremost, in activities that endure into eternity; in a way that pleases God, the Source and Giver of wisdom.
To walk in the wisdom of God, we must be led by His Spirit through faith in Christ Jesus. “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given to him.” (Jam 1:5). Wisdom helps us to fulfill the Great Commission and helps to enlarge the coast of the gospel of the kingdom of heaven. It helps us to occupy for the Lord because nothing is more important to Him than turning over the lost souls from damnation to eternal life. This is the wisest thing to do for the Lord inorder that we might accomplish a fulfilled life here on earth. So, to be useful to the Lord, we need divine wisdom which is possessed when the words of God dwell richly in us, and with which we will be able to teach and admonish others correctly and wisely. None of us is spiritually wise by nature. We are foolish until we are transformed by the renewing of our minds. When Solomon asked for wisdom, he was given by God with riches and prosperity added. If we ask for it today, it shall be given to us by God. When wisdom enters into our hearts with knowledge; it will be pleasant to our souls (Prov 2:10).
