TMOTCS: THE SCOFFERS OF CHRIST’S SECOND COMING.

We are to expect scoffers in the last days, saying “where is the promise of His coming for, since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation” (2Pet 3:3-4). So, the scoffers of Christ’’s return are just confirming the fulfilment of this prophecy. There are many prophecies about Christ’s mission in the Bible that were not fulfilled in His first coming but they await fulfilment in His second coming.

The promise of His coming is everywhere in the Bible both OT and NT. In the NT, by those who have authoritative records and heard Him speak repeatedly of His coming. “But as the days of Noah were so shall the coming of the Son of man be” (Mat 24:37). “And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory (Mak 13:26). “..I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself..” (John 14:3). These are clear and direct words of Jesus written in the synoptic gospels.

Finally, the last book of the Bible, the Book of Revelation summed up the promise of His personal return. “Behold, He cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see Him, and they also which pierced Him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of Him” (Rev 1:7). So, true believers should not be bothered about scoffers of Christ’s coming because they are lost in ignorance. Rather, we are to place in our hearts the assurance and expectation of His near return to gather His saints unto Himself. Revelation 22:20-21
