TMOTCS: THE GREAT HIGH PRIEST!

The Great High Priest is One who stands between Man and God, representing God to Man and Man to God. Man cannot go directly to God because God is holy and Man is sinful, and God cannot come directly to Man for the same reasons. The question is; Who is this Great High Priest? This Great High Priest is Jesus Christ! “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.” (Heb 4:14).

This Great High Priest must be a great personality to be able to fully represent us before God. He must understand our needs and have the capacity to mediate on our behalf. The dignity of His Person and the perfection of His character must be acceptable to God. He must have human nature to understand us and must possess a glorious, perfect and sinless nature to be able to stand for us before God. “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin” (Heb 4:15).

Jesus Christ as the Great High Priest, has accomplished our salvation by His death, burial, resurrection and ascension to heaven. He has gone to be with God as our High Priest and since we have such a Great and Glorious High Priest, we can freely approach the throne of Grace with confidence to receive from God; mercy and pardon, as well as help in time of need for joy, for peace, for comfort, for strength, for provisions and protection. (Heb 4:16). So, Jesus is the Great High Priest and the Mediator between God and Man. No one else is qualified to represent Man before God.
