TMOTCS: THE GREAT BANQUET.
Banqueting is ceremonious public dining and wining in which meals are served lavishly to honour individuals or persons. The parable of a Great Banquet in the bible where a royal provision was made for food and wine for the people is instructional. (Luke 14:16-24). The lord of the banquet sent his servants to invite people from near and far for dinner because there was enough provision for all. Likewise, Jesus prepared salvation banquet and gave His servants the mandate to bring others in, to enjoy in full God’s unlimited provisions.
In other words, the Lord’s Great Banquet of Salvation is available for all and believers are to go out and call people far and near for the Great Gospel Banquet (Mat 28:19). Evangelism is belivers’ commission and every believer should be doing this all the time. There is danger in being selfish and content with our own salvation and not showing any feelings and concern for those who are outside and in need of the saving knowledge of Christ. We must not delay, because delay can be denial (John 4:35)
This is to say that the business of gospel evangelism is very urgent because people around us are dying without God and without hope. Some of them are our loved ones, our friends and neighbours. It is imperative that we warn them of the peril of their present position and of their future destiny without Christ (Ezek 33:7-8). The Plan of God is that every saved person must bring all the unsaved to the Great Banquet to enjoy free salvation that He has provided in Jesus Christ. This is the sole mandate of the believer (John 9:4).
