THE DEADLINESS OF SIN
The Bible says; he that covers his sins shall not prosper, but whosoever confesses and forsakes them shall have mercy (Prov 28:13). It is an indisputable fact that Sin is the ugliest thing in the life of man and while it is true that only the fools will make mockery of sin and care less of its deadly venom, it is certain that no sane person will do so. Sin is deadly and filthy; it breaks both the heart of Man and that of God and renders the mission of Jesus Christ on earth fruitless. Sin leads to eternal death because the soul that sins shall die.
Man is always in the habit of covering up or denying his sin. At early age in life children begin to lie about the things they have done; denying their sins. Ananias and Sapphira committed a grievous sin and tried to cover it up by telling a lie (Acts 5:1-11). Sometimes people say they commit sin because they cannot help it. This is just an admission on their part that the power of sin is too strong. Some seek to minimise their sins by saying the sins are not grievous. No amount of justification or denial will get rid of sin.
So, no matter how much we try to conceal our sins, all such efforts will be absolutely futile because God can see through every human effort to cover sin (Prov 15:3; Jer 23:24). Man cannot free self from sin and its bondage. We need God to free us and blot out our transgressions (Isaiah 43:25). He can wash the sinner clean and make him white as snow and put all sins behind His back (Isaiah 38:17). God made Christ our Sin-bearer to set us free from the penalty of sin. But we must confess and renounce our sin and continue to live a holy life to become free indeed. (1 John 1:7-10).
