THE DANGER OF SELF-DRIVEN LIFE.
Those who cling to worthless self-driven life on earth will forfeit the grace that could have been theirs on earth and in heaven. When we decide to cling to self instead of clinging to Christ the Saviour of mankind, our lives would be in danger and could possibly be destroyed beyond remedy. Therefore, a self-driven life without Jesus will forfeit all the divine benefits which possibly could have led to a great time here on earth and an everlasting life in heaven; instead of the rubbles of temporary and damnable worldly pleasures. The principle of self-driven life is demonstrated over and over in the Bible: Esau, by self-driven life, traded his birthright for a bowl of stew. Cain’s self-driven life ended in the sin of murder; he slew Abel his brother, and he was ‘marked’ a murderer for life. Achan and his entire family were stoned to death because of self-driven life of covetousness.
Others include Absalom, who shortened his days by life of pride and rebellion against his own father, King David. He died in a war that was not necessary at all but for a self-driven life of ambition. King Belshazzar, the last king of Babylon. He brought an untimely end to his life and kingdom by dishonouring God. Daniel said to him: “you have set yourself up against the Lord of heaven. You had the vessels from his temple brought to you, and you and your nobles, your wives and your concubines drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand. But you did not honor the God who holds in His hand your life and all your ways. Therefore He sent the hand that wrote the inscription that ended his life and terminated his kingdom – (Daniel 5:23–28). God numbered the days of his reign and brought it to an abrupt end. Think of Judas Iscariot and his shameful end. They all lived a wasted, damnable and ignorable self-driven life.
Today, people still do the very same thing, living a self-driven life despite the benefits of the gospel spread. They trade their lives and future in worldliness and forfeiting the grace of God, both in this world and the world to come. They devote their lives to gaining the whole world and loosing their soul which nothing can exchange for. Their idols are wealth, pleasure, power and position as against retaining the knowledge of God and the benefits of His grace. They fail to learn from the hopelessness of those biblical characters who did not retain the knowledge of God in their hearts but followed their own hearts to perdition and eternal damnation. It is worthless to continue to live a life on earth without Christ because this world in its present form will pass away and so are all flesh. Therefore, nothing in this world is worth clinging to as idol in exchange for eternal life. We all need Jesus Christ in our lives to escape eternal judgment! A self-driven life is unsafe and very dangerous, let Jesus drive your life!
