OUR TOPMOST PRIORITY.
To know God is the first and topmost priority in life, after which His ways could be known. Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all other things shall be added unto you: (Matt 6:33). Moses yearned to know God and to know His ways. In turn, God revealed Himself to him and through revelation, he experienced God’s presence and His favour. The Scripture says “Teach me your ways so that I may know you and continue to find favour with you.” (Exo 33:13). So we must make God topmost priority in our lives to experience His presence and enjoy unrestricted benefits and favours. Things happen when God occupies a prominent place in our hearts. His favour opens doors, changes circumstances, causes blessing, gives protection, provides counsel and overcomes barriers. His presence preserves the soul, gives strength, fortitude and hope. He is Who we need in life to sail through all unpleasant situations of life successfully. As we learn to trust Him, especially in all situations including periods of hardship, affliction and weakness; His power and strength will be fully active in us and His Grace will keep us going.
When we study the biblical accounts of the lives of those who, in the past, knew God and His ways; we will appreciate the profitability of knowing God and His ways. Through Moses, the Israelites knew God and experienced His presence. It was the knowledge of God they had and His ways they knew that set the nation and its people apart, from other nations and peoples, as God’s favourite nation and chosen people. They enjoyed His divine presence. When they lived for God, they experienced His presence and favour and when they rejected Him, they got perished or ended up in exiled captivity. This simply means; when we retain God in our knowledge, spend time with Him and walk in His Ways, we will continue to enjoy His favour, mercies, preservation, protection, provisions, purposes and unending benefits. Moses was called by God to lead His people out of Egypt: But because he knew God perfectly that without His presence, the Israelites would die in the wilderness. So he made it a topmost priority to teach them the ways of God so that they might be preserved. Today, the Scripture is there to guide and teach us the ways of God to remain preserved. We do not need Moses!
The Scripture is given for our learning, that through it, with patience and comfort of heart, we might have hope; (Rom 15:4). Therefore, when we study the scripture and spend time with God meditatively, we will know God intimately and learn of His precepts perfectly. God’s counsel gives power to overcome barriers, strengthens in weakness, gives fortitude in depression and hope in hopeless situations. What happened to the nation of Israel in the wilderness and at Canaan were written as examples of the nature of God’s love and of His just judgment. When we retain Him in our knowledge and do His Will, we will enjoy His divine presence, benefits and blessings. On the other hand, when we go against His precepts and reject Him, we will loose His relationship and be exposed to dangers. All the things which happened and documented about the people and incidents of the past were written to serve as examples for us to learn from. They are for our own admonition; (1Cor 10:11). So, to know God and keep His commandments must be our topmost priority. “Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments; (1John 2:3).
