INSIGHT TO THE GREAT TRIBULATION EVENT.
The Great Tribulation event is mentioned in several verses of the scripture as an event that will occur after the rapture and it will be a time of terrible suffering on earth. It is also referred to as the time of “Jacob’s trouble” (Jer 30:7; Mat 24:21-22; etc). During this time, the Antichrist, who is a diabolical being in the form of a man will take possession of this world for a reign of terror and will blaspheme and proclaim himself as God (Dan 8:23-25). While this is happening down on earth, the marriage supper of the Lamb with the saints will take place above (Rev 19:1-10).
The Great Tribulation is described variously in the scripture as a time of trouble, the day of the Lord, a day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, a day of wasteness and desolation, a time of trouble, etc; (Dan 12:1; Joel 2:2; etc). The great tribulation will take off after the rapture of the church and will last for seven years. It will end at the second advent of Jesus Christ when He comes for a thousand-year reign called the millennial reign. So, the great tribulation is a post-rapture and pre-millennium event.
The scope of the terror will cover Israel, the middle east and the whole earth and the powers at work will be the Anti-Christ described variously as the beast, the king of the north, the Syrian, the Assyrian, the king of Babylon, the man of sin, etc; empowered by Satan. The great tribulation will end at the end of the seventh year when Jerusalem will have been badly ravished by the Anti-Christ. The remaining children of Israel will then repent in great mourning, calling for Jesus, the messiah, to come back to the earth and establish the millennial reign all over humanity (Zech 14:4-9; Micah 1:3-4; etc).
After the seven-year period of terror, Jesus will descend to destroy the anti-Christ and cast him into the lake of fire together with his armies at the battle of Armageddon and the devil will be bound and cast into the bottomless pit for 1,000 years (Rev 20:1-3). Then a millennial temple will be built in Jerusalem from where Jesus will rule the whole world.
