BELIEVERS AND MODERATE SUCCESS
The desire to be rich is not an enviable ambition and anyone who desires riches loves pain and trouble. Money, they say, is the root of all evil and it drowns men in destruction and perdition. Many bible men like Balaam, Achan, Gehazi, Judas etc left the faith and ended in sorrows by seeking after riches. True success is living a godly life and being content with what we have (1 Tim 6:6).
Because the rich man values his wealth more than anything else, there is tendency he will lose the kingdom of God. Jesus told His disciples that it will be easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for the rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven (Mark 10:23-25). Money may help the rich solve almost all problems but certainly not redemption of his soul unless he becomes poor in spirit (Matt 5:3). So, whoever loves his soul must be content with moderate success.
Man is neither to trust in wealth nor rejoice when prosperity increases because riches may grow wings and fly away like in the case of Prophet Job who lost everything, he had in one day. Wealth and success cannot help in the day of Judgment and nobody takes wealth to heaven. Although the rich may trust his money, treasures have no lasting value but righteousness delivers from death (Prov 10:2). Therefore contentment is a great gain and it brings true happiness and a fulfilling life, riches do not.
